Yola

Yola is an online webtool which lets small businesses have a website at a much lower cost than the average website. It includes hosting, up to 5GB of file storage, and templates that allow a novice to at least get a a basic web presence. It also includes 24/7 support through an online forum that is excellent.

In the Canadian market there are several sponsors such as Google and Yola and a few others that are providing Canadian small businesses with a free Canadian domain for a year and access to use Yola to create and update a website. The tool allows you to maintain your website online and use templates to create a site.

You still may need some help with the look/feel and the content, but this product provides you the ability to have a tool that you can be easily maintained once in place. This site was developed with Yola and I had the majority of my site up in a week where in the past it took me twice as long.

I highly recommend this product, especially for the small business owner who does not currently have a site.

Communication Tool - GoldMail

In my previous position with a start-up, I was on a sales newsletter list that had an article entitled "Never Cold Call Again". As with most of us, cold calling is not something we are fond of doing. To be honest it 　really does not work that well in this day in age when people truly hide behind voicemail and other people. The same newsletter recommended a tool called Goldmail. This is a SaaS product that allows you to create a professional PowerPoint presentation with a voice over and customize it to yourself and your company to send to your prospects before you call.

I brought it to the attention of my boss, the CEO and we ended up getting a license. I was focused on building a channel and other partners and found it as a great introduction to a prospect to which in turn I would then follow up with a call. The product lets you know how many times the message has been viewed and by including your web link in the message, it can help increase your web traffic. This is a very affordable tool that is paid for on a monthly subscription.
